Abstract

The absence of evidence of occupational hazards resulting from the aerosols generated in the cleaning area of the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), in front the legal requirement of the implementation of air control structure in this sector, justifies the accomplishment of this research that has the objective to produce the scientific evidences on the prevalence of symptoms and respiratory inflammatory response, related to the different systems of ventilation of the ambient air. Type of study: Cross-Sectional Study. Place of study: 3 CSSD with different ventilation systems (negative pressure, centralized air conditioning and natural ventilation). Group of exposed: will be evaluated professionals working in CSSD professionals. Inclusion criteria: will be included in the sample all nursing professionals working in the CSSD who perform cleaning activities at the time of collection and voluntarily agree to participate in the research by signing the informed consent form. Exclusion Criteria: will be excluded from the sample professionals with previous history of respiratory diseases under treatment, recent respiratory infections in the last four weeks, smokers and former smokers under six months. Data collection: The professionals will perform the exhaled nitric oxide fraction (FeNO) measurement test during the work period and answer a respiratory symptoms' questionnaire. The professionals will perform the exhaled nitric oxide fraction (FeNO) measurement test during the work period and answer a respiratory symptoms' questionnaire European Community respiratory symptoms' questionnaire translated and validated in Portuguese. Expected results: Identify the impacts of different air ventilation systems and symptoms of respiratory inflammation on the health of professionals working in CSSD. (AU)
