Abstract

In this work, the corrosion behavior of the UNS S2304 and UNS S2205 duplex stainless steels welded by the GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) process with the synchronous double fusion method for juice-citrus industry applications will be investigated. These steels will be welded in two conditions, dissimilar steels (UNS S2304 x UNS S2205) and similar steels (UNS S2304 x UNS S2304). The welding parameters related to the optimized corrosion resistance will be determined. The study of corrosion resistance characterization will be carried out by electrochemical tests, specifically by scanning vibrating electrode technique (SVET) and by the use of microcells. The microstructure of the regions affected by welding will be characterized by high resolution techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) and Scanning Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy (SKPFM). The results will be correlated with the microstructural changes resulting from the GTAW-DF welding process allowing the choice of the optimized parameters for improved corrosion resistance. (AU)
