Abstract

Isothermal calorimeters measure the amount of thermal energy released by thermal reactions over time at constant temperature. They allow to follow the hydration kinetics at various temperatures under ambient pressure. Its use in cementitious materials technology includes studies of the influence of composition or process parameters on hydration heat, allowing for example to optimize cement formulation, study of the influence of additives or other components on chemical reaction kinetics. It also provides primary data for thermal stress studies and contributes to models of mechanical cement performance prediction. (AU)
