Abstract

In the context of the implantation of the neoliberal model in Chile and in Brazil, there are social transformations that hinder social bond and collective action. This has significant consequences for the development of the people and communities of which they are a part, especially those living in poverty. Within the framework of public policies, which usually seeks to address poverty and its effects in a focused way, there is a limited consideration of communities and their dynamics to strengthen the protagonism in mobilizing existing resources, in line with their needs and interests. Community psychosocial dynamics can be a resource but also an obstacle for communities to advance in the capacity to defend their rights and work for the common welfare. Although there is a literature that considers several dimensions of this dynamic, a partial approach prevails without accounting for its complexity. Recognizing that Chile and Brazil share some fundamental issues, but also face particular realities, this study seeks to understand local particularities and commonalities of community psychosocial dynamics in two distinct territories of Chile and Brazil, where policies are usually developed addressing issues associated with social vulnerability or poverty. It proposes to use a mixed methods research approach, in the logic of participatory evaluation, in two neighborhoods located in the city of Temuco (Chile) and two in the city of Ribeirão Preto / SP (Brazil).
