Abstract

According to the WTO, world trade loses, on average, $ 1.5 trillion due to counterfeiting, and the areas of greatest concern are medicines, pesticides and food items, as they directly compromise the lives of millions of people. Despite constant investment from both the government and the private sector in the development of improved fluorescent cryptographic inks, counterfeiters also become more sophisticated in reverse engineering such systems. In addition, many fluorescent cryptographic inks exhibit substantial toxicity, which can negatively affect consumers. Our proposal aims to develop rylene-based structured organic nanomaterials (SON) which, through the upconversion technique, presents bifluorescence at different excitation wavelengths and ensure fluorescent cryptographic with greater difficulty in counterfeiting, where the potential markets for application are medicines (human and pet), pet food and pesticides.
