Abstract

This concerns a thematic project which deals with two current and interdependent aspects of biological treatment, which are the development of mixed aerobic/anaerobic systems and the study of the biofilms that are formed in those reactors. It is proposed to operate four different treatment systems, fed with different substrata (sanitary sewage and synthetic substrates), widely varying the operational conditions, in order to verify the performance of the systems. From these systems samples will be obtained of biofilms which will be characterized as to their structure, composition and biological activity (metanogenic, nitrifying, denitrifying) through specific trials and methods.
