Abstract

Pachira Aubl. is the largest genus of Bombacoideae and it is represented by about 55 species, occurring in Southern North America to South America. In Brazil the Amazonian Pachira clade includes about 23 species, with 14 endemic of Brazilian Amazonian Biome, and it is poorly represented on herbaria collections. On phylogenetic approaches, the Amazonian Pachira clade belongs to Pachira s.l. clade emerging as sister with Pachira Extra-Amazonian clade and Eriotheca Schott & Endl. Thus, this work will aim to investigate the relationships of Amazonian Pachira clade using a major number of species on phylogenetic analysis, since no other works used this genus in your totality and only eleven species are employed in this analysis. Thus, we will investigate if the Pachira Extra-Amazonian clade is a new genus or if it will emerge in Amazonian Pachira clade, being Pachira a monophyletic genus. To confirm these hypotheses, it will be used methodologies usual on molecular analysis employed in phylogenetic studies of Bombacoideae (with markers ITS and ETS for ribosomal DNA and trnS-trnG for chloroplast DNA), and if it will be possible, find new markers to the family. Besides, taxonomic studies will be carried out for Brazilian species of Amazonian Pachira clade species obtained in representative herbaria collections to Bombacoideae and survey, and we will analyse the historical biogeography of the group to understand the origin process and diversification of Pachira.
