Improvement and design of cathonic peptidic sequences with antitumoral and antibacterial action

Abstract

This project aims to design new cationic peptide sequences with selective action against cancer cells and bacteria. With a multidisciplinary approach, the present project proposal will allow, besides the determination of structural aspects of the studied peptides, to simultaneously obtain temporal and spatial resolution of the mechanisms involved in the action of cationic peptides in cells. Three major aspects will be studied: 1) the relationship between hydrophobic moment of cationic peptides and anticancer and antimicrobial action; 2) design of peptide sequences from alpha helix segments of classical ion channels; and 3) the relationship between extracellular agents such as glycosaminoglycans and anticancer action.
