Abstract

The Lauro de Souza Lima Institute (ILSL) is linked to the São Paulo State Department of Health - SES-SP, and aims to promote and develop basic and applied research, medical and hospital care, as well as training and education in the area of general and sanitary dermatology. ILSL is a reference in diagnosis, treatment and research in leprosy for the Health Department of the State of São Paulo and for the Ministry of Health, and is also a Collaborating Center of the World Health Organization - WHO. Within this scope, the Molecular Biology and Pathology laboratories have been key points for the development of research and the implementation of specialized diagnostic services, being strategic areas for receiving funding for research at this institute.
