Abstract

The Lauro de Souza Lima (ILSL) Institute constitutes a unit of the Coordenadoria de Controle de Doenças - CCD, Secretary of Health of the Government of the State of São Paulo. It aims at the promotion and development of basic and applied research, medical assistance, as well as training and teaching in the field of General and Sanitary Dermatology, with focus on Leprosy, in respect to which it is a national and international Reference Center.Regarding research, the mission of the Institution is to carry on research projects, development technical, scientific and administrative work, alone or in collaboration with other national and international institutions. Currently, ILSL has laboratories of Pathology, Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunogenetics, Immunology, Mycology, Microbiology and Clinical Pathology, as well as a Laboratory Animal House for reproduction and maintenance of experimental animals. The institute count on 22 researchers, besides many other professionals, who work in the areas of Biology, and Clinical Therapeutics, Pharmacology and Biochemistry, Immunology, Microbiology, Pathology and Rehabilitation. Nowadays, about 65 research projects are being carried out.The direction of the ILSL worked hard to modernize and improve the research infrastructure, seeking to provide the means necessary for the development of scientific and technological research. Over the last ten years, many infrastructure facilities were rebuilt and remodeled to improve their functional conditions, as well as the park of equipments available. Additionally, we opened the new premises for the laboratories of Biology and Molecular Biology, and purchased equipments with the latest technology including: CO2 incubator, Freezer -80°C, Genetic Analyzer, Thermal cycler for Real-Time PCR, among others. However, due to the increase in the number of ongoing projects and the inclusion of undergraduate and graduate students working in the research projects, it was necessary to expand the area designated for the multiuser research laboratory. Thus, a new multiuser research laboratory is being built, and it is nearing completion, with delivery scheduled for July 30, 2013.Thus, the annual plan of implementation of institutional budget for infrastructure costs for the year 2013 includes the purchase of air conditioners to be installed in the new multiuser research laboratory, in addition, "box type" chairs that will be used in the research laboratory and "typist type" chairs that will be used in the study room will be acquired.
