Abstract
Two-dimensional materials in the form of atomically thin layers such as graphene, MoS2 etc. are under intense study due to the unique combination of interesting fundamental properties, easy tuneability due to the atomic-scale dimensions and potentially interesting and disruptive applications in the semiconductor or optoelectronic industry. The strong light-matter interaction in 2D semiconductors, and a planar geometry with an atomic-scale thickness make them ideal for integration with plasmonic nanostructures that could be used to further enhance light absorption, modify exciton lifetime or control exciton transport. In this project, we aim to combine strengths of the Swiss partner in the area of optoelectronic devices based on 2D materials with those of the Brazilian partners in the area of plasmonic nanostructures and nanocrystals. The synergy between plasmons and the intrinsic exciton properties of two-dimensional materials could be used to explore both strong-light matter interaction and new device applications. They could be used to create photoluminescence enhancement, coherent light emission and exciton manipulation and control. (AU)
