Abstract Advancements in the production and characterization of plasmonic materials doped with rare earth ions have driven innovations in compact light sources, optical storage, sensitive spectroscopy, solar cell efficiency, and more. In this context, understanding the interaction mechanisms between surface plasmon resonances and dopant ions is essential. In this Postdoc research plan, an extensive spectroscopic (linear and nonlinear) and photothermal characterization of nanostructured thin films based on rare earth ion Eu3+-doped tellurides is proposed. The main objective is to comprehend and control the efficient energy transfer between surface plasmons and luminescent emitters, enabling the modulation of light emission at the nanoscale. The unprecedented photothermal characterization of these materials, alongside the investigation of linear and nonlinear properties, aims to deepen the understanding of light-matter interaction and explore applications in nanophotonics. The Centro de Pesquisas em Óptica e Fotônica (CePOF) has a vast history in producing and characterizing luminescent plasmonic systems, and this plan aligns with the group's pursuit of more efficient plasmonic devices, further deepening their knowledge in this promising research field.
