Abstract

The objective of the visit of Prof. N. Sawado is to study, in collaboration with the group of Prof. Ferreira, models in (2+1)-dimensions which are not integrable but that possess localized soliton solutions in two spatial dimensions, rapid decaying in all directions, which are stable in the long-term time evolution. More specifically we shall consider the equations of Zakharov-Kuznetsov and Davey-Stewartson I, as well as models describing the geophysical fluid dynamics of the atmosphere, or ocean, on a rotating planet. Such models find applications in non-linear phenomena in several areas of science. The visit will certainly open a new topic of research for the two collaborating groups. (AU)
