Abstract

The Instituto Butantan (IBu) is a research, innovation and production institute with national and world recognition, whose fundamental mission is to meet the demands of public health, contributing to the promotion of the population's well-being. It has an important collection of biological material, including primary and human cell lineages and cultures, human biological material obtained during clinical trials and studies with patients poisoned by venomous animals and microorganisms such as virus, fungi and bacteria and their associated information. All of this collection is considered strategic for life sciences and for national and international biotechnology, broking on technological development and innovation, in the areas of human and animal health, arising from research, development, pre-clinical and clinical trials, and Production of quality and traceability. The Center will meet the demands for the deposit, expansion, custody and distribution of biological resources for Butantan and other public institutions, supporting research, development, innovation and production activities. The CRBB organization will also attend a recommendation from ANVISA, through a strategic backup of the biological material of IBU's production sector. The CRBB will also include an NB2 classification area for animal testing with GMOs or pathogens. NB2 will complete the structure of CRBB, enabling it to have biological resources such as SPF and knockouts animals, to carry out assays with new molecules or with antigens to treat or prevent diseases caused by microorganisms. The mission of the CRBB, proposed here, is aligned with public policies at the federal level, according to Decree 6.041, of 2007, which establishes the Biotechnology Development Policy, creating the biological resources centers, and also at the state level, according to the Health Department of the State.
