Abstract

The microstructural characterization of different materials and compounds is a basic activity of research projectsconducted regularly by 7 laboratories of the Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnológicas do Estado de São Paulo-IPT. Thescanning electron microscopes are located in adjoining rooms in building 48, selected to house them due to itsanti-vibration constructive arrangement, especially advantageous for obtaining images with a magnification ofover 30,000X. Good operational practice also demands uninterruptedly controlled temperature and humiditywithin the ranges 20±2 °C and 60% max, respectively, which has not been practiced as a result of the obsolescenceof the air conditioning system that serves the rooms (mainly the unavailability of wear components on themarket, which has forced the use of merely palliative and not always adequate solutions). Thus, it is planned touse the Technical Reserve for Institutional Infrastructure in the acquisition/installation of two air conditioningequipment for the rooms that house the scanning electron microscopes, which are part of the collective researchinfrastructure of the IPT. Currently, such equipment is simple and efficient, making it possible to obtain therequired climatization conditions with a low level of maintenance for a long time. (AU)
