Biological networks to unravel interacting components in sugarcane pathosystems

Abstract

Using an integrated approach to unravel transcriptomic changes under various biotic and abiotic stresses will help investigate the pathways related to sugarcane immune system induction, the main focus of our investigation. Here we focus on two pathosystems involving sugarcane: 1) a combined approach involving smut disease x microbiome x environmental conditions to investigate transcriptional changes upon Sporisorium scitamineum infection in resistant and susceptible plants previously grown in two contrasting environmental conditions (sandy and clayey soils); and 2) an initial steps for functional genomic strategy (genome sequencing and transcriptome analysis) of a lesion root disease provoked by Prathylenchys zeae and infecting sugarcane. Data will feed as new layers of our group's previously described biological network (Rody et al., 2020), providing clues for genetic manipulation, breeding strategies, and management practices. (AU)
