Abstract

In the last two decades, neuroinflammation was considered a biological response that was only a supporting factor in the etiopathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. However, preclinical studies and more recent studies confirm the involvement of the immune system in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. In this context, cytokine-10 (IL-10) came to be considered as a key molecule in the control of neuroinflammation, due to its potent anti-inflammatory effects. Therefore, the aim of the current project will be to evaluate the potential anti-inflammatory effect of IL-10 on the hippocampus in a preclinical model of Alzheimer's disease. Physiological, genetic and pharmacological approaches will be combined in mice/PS1 and IL-10-/-. In addition to in vivo studies, research will be carried out on silica bases using data from elderly mice and patients with Alzheimer's disease. We are certain that the development of the project will significantly contribute to the understanding of the role of IL-10 in the etiopathogenesis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease. (AU)
