Abstract

Sugarcane is widely distributed throughout Brazil and is one of the main crops in the world.country. Cattle producers also use sugarcane during dry periods.for feeding your herds in the dry period, fresh or in the form of silage. However, silage is a product with quality limitations due toin fermentation. The objective of this work will be to test the capacity of essential oils of citrus inferring in fermentation in order to improve the quality of sugarcane silage allowing greater digestibility and animal performance. will bemade 64 experimental silos that will be allocated in a design in randomized blocks. The eight treatments to be evaluated will be obtained from a4 × 2 factorial arrangement, in which the following will be evaluated: I. D-limonene dose: 0; 250; 500 or750 mg/kg-1from MS; and II. the source of limonene: D-limonene® essential oil (93% ofD-limonene, Sucorrico, Araras, Brazil, extracted by distillation) and the essential oil oforange® (93% D-limonene, Sucorrico, Araras, Brazil, obtained after crushing the fruit, by centrifugation). Chemical, chromatographic, microbiological and in vitro digestibility will be carried out to evaluate the quality of the silages. Then, the four best treatments will proceed to a metabolic assay using sheep. Eight animals will be placed in metabolic cages for evaluation regarding the performance and digestibility. It is expected with this test to define the capacity and dose that orange essential oil can be used to add sugarcane silage. (AU)
