Latin American regionalism in the new period of leftist governments: challenges and perspectives

Abstract

Latin American regionalism has gone through a period of retraction in recent years due to political changes in the governments of the region that have redirected integrationist projects, or even abandoned some initiatives. The recent rise of left-wing governments tends to stimulate integration processes again and indicate a willingness to redefine regional strategies in this sense, especially after the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who at the beginning of the century was an important leader in this regard. The activities involved in the research intend to stimulate the debate about these changes and their possible impacts, both in more closed activities (workshops and discussion meetings) and in open events (seminars and short courses). The objective is to consolidate the partnership and to build a joint research project. (AU)
