Vision for learning: digital therapeutic resources to enhance visual skills

Abstract

According to data from 2019, there are 7 million people in Brazil with some degree of permanent visual impairment, with 90% of this portion of the population being individuals with low vision. From another perspective, for every blind person, there are an average of 3.4 people with low vision. International publications on cerebral visual impairment state that 40% of the brain is involved in visual processing and that brain injuries cause important difficulties in development, language, communication and learning. Speech therapy is one of the health areas that supports the treatment of people with low vision, but it has few digital therapeutic resources to treat its patients, with an evident demand in the face of the current moment of society and the behavior of people in the face of new technologies. In this context, the objective of this project is to develop therapeutic resources, in digital format, to enhance visual processing skills, through a web platform to be used by speech therapists, in the evaluation and intervention with people with visual difficulties. The therapeutic resources will be developed in minigame formats, using the didactic approach of Universal Design for Learning. At the end of this project, it is expected to have 20 digital therapeutic resources available on a web platform for validation with the market, 12 of which are new and 8 of them improved, which have already been prototyped by the company. After carrying out the market validations, it is expected to evolve the technological maturity level of the solution from TRL 2 to TRL4. (AU)
