Abstract

The visit of the experienced teacher in the field of linguistics and education for the deaf, and in the studies of sign languages, is very opportune for the development of research in the field of Bilingual Education for the Deaf, and even more important due to Law nº 14.191/2021 , recently enacted, which creates a new subchapter in the Law of Directives and Bases, placing bilingual education for the deaf as a specific teaching modality, opening new paths and tensions for the debate on rights and the policy of educational inclusion in the country. The proponent has maintained research relationships with the visiting professor candidate since 2017 (on the occasion of a postdoctoral internship at the University of Barcelona). On that occasion, they began to jointly develop sign language assessment instruments aimed at supporting pedagogical practices of teachers of deaf students in Elementary School. These instruments have been applied in pilot studies in Catalonia (Spain) and in São Paulo (Brazil) and in 2023 we intend to expand their application and deepen the analysis of the results obtained. Thus, the main objective of the visit is a joint analysis of the data collected (in both countries) and, at the same time, based on these data, to offer reflective training to teachers who work in Deaf Education regarding the use and development of sign language by their teachers. students. For this, the visiting professor will work with the Deafness and Bilingual Approach Research Group (UFSCar/USP) collaborating with the analyzes and will also work in partnership with researchers in the area: Cristina B. F. de Lacerda (UFSCar); Ana Claudia B. Lodi (USP-RP); Ana Paula Zerbato (USP-SP); Claudia Regina Vieira (UFABC) in the discussion and formulation of training activities for professionals who work in the education of the deaf in different public networks in the State of São Paulo. The visit is expected to make advances in the analysis and application possibilities of the instruments developed and, at the same time, to improve the quality of teaching Libras to deaf students based on the training offered to teachers.
