Abstract

The project aims to a study of the geodynamic evolution of units that formed Western Gondwana from Mesoproterozoic to Eopaleozoic, a period of time that includes the episodes of Rodinia formation, its disaggregation and the later amalgamation of Gondwana. Rock samples will be collected from the selected units for the obtention of paleomagnetic, geochemical and geochronological data. in the Amazonia Craton the Guajará Mirim, Rio Branco and Aguapeí groups and eventually units from the Uatumã and Beneficente groups will be studied. In order to supplement existing data for the São Francisco Craton the alkaline province in the Itabuna region and neoproterozoic carbonates from the Bambuí group will also be analysed. Neoproterozoic-Eopaleozoic units associated with the Brasiliano mobile belts will also be part of the project. Twelve filed work excursions are planned for the four years of the project to the Amazonia and São Francisco Cratons and to the States of Ceará, Paraná and Santa Catarina. Sampling for paleomagnetism will always be coordinated with participants and collaborators in the areas of Geochemistry and Geochronology so as to enable a comparative analysis of the data. (AU)
