Abstract

The advancement of dental materials and their processing have been replaced posterior metal-ceramic crowns for metal free ceramic crowns. Ceramic restorations show color similar to the dental structure, as well as, absence of grayish margins, which fits the high esthetic requirement of patients. Ceramic crowns have shown good clinical performance, with success rates comparable to metal-ceramic prostheses. However, some clinical problems are still not fully elucidated. In addition, there are few clinical studies about the performance of ceramic crowns confectioned by CAD/CAM system with zirconia reinforced lithium silicate (ZRLS) and concerning dental wear evaluation by intra oral scanners data. Therefore, this research aims to validate the clinical viability of the use of ZRLS for single crowns, in order to verify their real advantages and disadvantages by a split-mouth randomized controlled clinical trial. Two ceramic compostions will be evaluated: monolithic single crowns of SLRZ and lithium disilicate (DL), seated in posterior teeth. The sample size will be of 50 participants or less, with each participant receiving two posterior crows or multiples of two, totaling 100 crowns, 50 of each material. The crowns will be analyzed by two blind independent calibrated evaluators, following USPHS criteria. The evaluation will be conducted in the baseline, 6 months and then 1, 2, 3 until 10 years. Success and survival rate will be estimated by Cox regression analysis, considering an interval of 95% of reliability. (AU)
