Abstract

The project "Impact and relevance of postgraduate programs in environmental sciences to achieve UN sustainable development" is part of the "Cities and Solutions" umbrella project that has been developed since 2005, bringing together a number of other related initiatives, such as research groups, disciplines and projects funded by national and international agencies. Environmental Sciences is one of CAPES '49 areas, currently bringing together 142 Graduate Programs (PPGs) in the five geographic regions of Brazil. In most states, these programs are interiorized, which makes the Environmental Sciences area a laboratory for experimentations with impact assessment methodologies of PPGs in different dimensions. In this sense, the general objective of the research is to analyze, based on the SDGs, the ecological, social and economic impact of the PostGraduate Programs in Environmental Sciences based on the research partnership established between UNIFESP, USP and UNESP, with the collaboration of FURB, UFMG, ISAE, UFPE, UP, UEFS e UTFPR. As a reference, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are adopted. The research will be developed using a hybrid set of quanti and qualitative methodologies: data mining, semantic networks, case studies, based action research as the driving strategy. The intention is to contribute to the efforts to measure the Territorial Highlight WG of the Environmental Sciences Area in Brazil and to align national research with global interests, the SDGs. As a result, it is expected to (1) produce maps, clusters and indicators of eco-socioeconomic impact of programs in the Environmental Sciences Area, (2) select reference experiences of these programs that assist in meeting the 17 SDGs and (3) a computational device (software) for data analysis and impact assessment of PPG in relation to SDGs in a systematic way considering a large number of data.
