Abstract

The advancement of climate change resulting from the overwhelming increase in CO2 emissions in the atmosphere brought with it the challenge of rethinking the chemical industry in the 21st century. One of the industrial activities with the greatest impact on the generation of greenhouse gases and energy consumption worldwide is the production of ammonia. This project proposes the investigation of production routes for this commodity based on the reduction of nitrogen gas (N2) in the presence of water through series of photochemical reactions in nanostructured catalysts. The project involves two work fronts: the synthesis of modified iron and tungsten oxide nanoparticles; and the preparation of porous ceramic bodies for anchoring these materials, based on titanium and tin oxides. The aim is to deepen the knowledge about the effect of the segregation of defects and dopants, as well as the physicochemical properties of the support materials, on the activity of photocatalysts for the N2 photoreduction process.
