Scientific MUE: acquisition of a high temporal, spatial and spectral resolution fluorescence system operating over a wide temperature range

Abstract

The investigation of electronic states of matter has resulted in countless numerous ofscientific research achievements over time. Among the tools available to access such properties, the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with matter is certainly one of the foundations of different experimental techniques used to unravel both the electronic structure and the time scales on which different dynamic processes take place. In particular, fluorescence spectroscopy andtime-resolved fluorescence underpins essential techniques for direct investigationof the natural scales of dynamic and out-of-equilibrium processes, such as coherence timesin diverse types of systems, such as, biological, chemical, physical, as well as in material science and quantum computing/information. Given the importance of such studies, in thisproject it is proposed the implementation of these two techniques through the use of a tunable lasersource and a detector with high temporal resolution operating over a wide spectral and temperature range, forming a multi-user equipment still unavailable in the state of São Paulo. Seven research leaders in their fields and dozens of other researchers are joing this research proposal, being active in research fields of chemistry, biochemistry, physics and materials sciences. Thanks to collaborations and consolidated expertise in the operation of multi-user facilities, added to to the originality of this new implementation, this project has the potential to raise the impact of science produced by the researchers involved and other external users active in different areas of knowledge.
