Abstract

The research project proposes the reliability analysis and monitoring of overhead and submerse power transmission systems (underground and submarine cables) by means of real-time estimation of the electric parameters, based on phasorial or temporal measurements at the sending and receiving ends. Such monitoring is possible from the stability analysis of stability terms, which can be calculated from the electric parameters to be estimated. Since the current and voltage measurements are continuous and periodically accessible at the terminals, a real-time monitoring of the transmission system is therefore possible. The technical literature shows that the voltage stability is directly related to the parameters in the system admittance matrix, which is composed of the primitive elements of the grid (e.g. generators, power transformers, lines, load). Nevertheless, the conventional approach usually considers such matrix constant, i.e. the time-varying dynamic of the electric parameters are neglected, which are resulting of the progressive structural degradation of conductors and cables, because of aging and external agents. Furthermore, the offline models use improper approaches and analytical formulations applied to local environmental conditions that affects the accuracy in which the electric parameters are determined. Thus, the conventional approach leads to intrinsic errors in the parameters determination and consequently in the monitoring and operation prediction of power transmission systems. Based on a comprehensive literature survey, it is proposed the development of alternative and accurate methods, which are capable to incorporate the real-time estimation of the electrical parameters to the voltage stability analysis of the entire grid, and therefore a reliable assessment of the system, with reliable and accurate margin of operation. The proposed development represents an alternative and novel approach for the estimation problem and reliability monitoring of power transmission grids, which takes into account moderns aspects of real power systems, renewable energy resources, stochastic modeling of measurements (continuous data acquisition) and various other aspects. These features determine the innovation and original nature of the research project. (AU)
