Lightning Alert: emitting an alert of the risk of a cloud-to-ground lightning strike (Phase 2)

Abstract

Industrial maintenance procedures, construction, maneuvers with flammable material, or socio-sports events in open areas must be interrupted when there is a risk of lightning because it increases the safety of people and reduces economic losses. However, a prolonged interruption of these activities also causes discomfort to the population and the ideal is to resume activities as soon as possible, ensuring maximum safety for the people, as well as material goods. In this sense, systems that enable decision-making to interrupt and resume activities at risk of electrical discharges are of great value. Thus, this project seeks to develop a mobile application that is capable of issuing an automatic alert of the risk of lightning strikes in the region where the user is in real-time, in addition to producing new features that contribute to the high performance of the alert with the use of different technologies. The development of the product requires implementing a network with at least 32 sensors to be distributed throughout the city of São Paulo, sending data to a server in the cloud. If the user is interested in more information, such as radar images, recording of the electric fields of the network, plotting the electric field by the inverse problem, etc. If the user is a company, a complete report will be offered to support decision-making that includes all the screens of the integrated system with the variables analyzed for issuing the alert. This product creates a synergy between the several existing protection systems (SLT and SCE) that are already accessible to the company. It is expected to be a differentiated product in the market with high performance and precision and that results in the minimization of risks to society. (AU)
