Abstract

Nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) has clinical manifestations characterized by impaired level of consciousness and ictal EEG patterns, and is more frequent in the elderly. Mortality is high, but there are still gaps in the determination of predictive factors of hospital outcomeObjective: To evaluate the mortality rate and prognostic scale data according to clinical variables and initial EEG patterns in the types of NCSE in the elderly.Methodology: 80 patients aged > 60 years with a diagnosis of NCSE treated at the clinical neurology service of Hospital PUC-Campinas, from July 2024 to June 2025, will be evaluated. Data from prognostic scales (SACE score, Status Epilepticus Severity Score (STESS), mSTESS and nSTESS) and the occurrence of death will be related with clinical variables, initial EEG patterns and etiological data, with appropriate statistical tests, with a significance level of p < 0.05.Expected results: To contribute to the characterization of prognostic factors in the NCSE in the elderly. To evaluate clinical aspects, ictal EEG patterns, etiological aspects according to the type of NSCS and hospital outcome. It is expected to contribute with scientific and technical data in an area that still has large knowledge gaps. (AU)
