Navigating the Dynamics of Labor Mobility: Consequences on Technological Collaboration and Knowledge Integration Post-Acquisitions

Abstract

This project investigates the challenges and opportunities that companies face in the presence of employee mobility constraints, defined as the move of employees from one company to another. Divided into two main articles, the project addresses, in Paper 1, how mobility constraints affect collaborations between companies for the joint development of technologies. Paper 2 focuses on the consequences of these restrictions on knowledge diffusion in the post-acquisition environment, examining the interaction between acquired and acquiring companies. Using robust econometric approaches, the project aims to enrich the literature on labor mobility, inter-company collaboration, and post-acquisition knowledge integration. Besides its theoretical contributions, the results may offer valuable insights with profound managerial implications, potentially helping companies improve collaboration strategies and knowledge dissemination in a context of restricted employee mobility.
