Abstract

This project aims to investigate the buckling of pipes by compression and torsion. The loads will be applied by special equipment, individually and simultaneously. Several parameters indicative of buckling will be monitored, aiming to excite buckling modes in the elastoplastic regime. The project approach is tripartite, theory, numerical modeling and experiments. The objective is to develop a map of boundary surfaces between the various buckling modes. The applications are closely connected with the oil exploration industry and with the laying and operation of long pipelines subjected to compression, torsion and bending loads. (AU)
