EMU: Acquisition of a instrumented treadmill and a isokinetic dynamometer to investigate human movement

Abstract

This proposal is requesting the acquisition of two important equipment: an instrumented treadmill and an isokinetic dynamometer. Instrumented treadmills are those capable of measuring forces, most commonly through at least one or two force platforms built under or within the treadmill structure. Isokinetic dynamometers are passive devices that resist applied forces and control exercise speed at a pre-determined frequency, being the gold standard for evaluating muscular capabilities such as strength, power and endurance. These are not just instruments; they are catalysts for scientific advancement and interinstitutional collaboration. This proposal is extremely important to elevate the Laboratory of Biomechanics and Motor Control(LABCOM) to a level of excellence in research and innovation in the western region of the State of São Paulo. This equipment will immediately contribute to three current research grants (generation program (2022/06403-9); initial project (2022/02971-2); regular (2022/09796-1)). The incorporation of this equipment into these projects will make it possible to collect external forces during walking/running and muscle torques, essential variables for understanding the questions/conditions studied. Through this work, it will be possible to promote advancements in different areas of physiotherapy and physical education (orthopedics, neurology and sports), reinforcing the multi-user use of equipment.
