Abstract

Rydberg atoms offer strong and controllable atomic interactions that can be tuned by selecting states with different principal quantum number or orbital angular momentum. In addition, Rydberg atoms present long lifetimes and many available energy levels. Their energy state separations allow coupling to electromagnetic fields from Megahertz to Terahertz range. Such features make them highly desirable for developing new quantum technologies, especially involving electromagnetic field sensing. In this proposal, we intend to investigate hot and cold Rydberg atomic samples as prototypes for quantum technologies involving microwave sensing. (AU)
