Abstract

This project will collaborate with Quilombola communities to analyze biodiversity data gaps in Amazon conservation areas. Using their traditional knowledge, we will identify key animal and plant species crucial to their way of life and assess their role in conserving the ecosystem in the face of socio-ecological challenges. Using traditional methods and modern technologies, such as DNA barcoding and remote sensing, we will comprehensively record biota and landscape characteristics. The project will be carried out by multiple institutions in Brazil and abroad and will be funded by FAPESP, CNPQ, FAPEAM, FAPERR and European foundations. FAPESP-funded researchers will focus primarily on the study of aquatic insects and macroalgae in Amazonian streams. (AU)
