Abstract

Heat stress has an impact on all animal species. Discomfort, increased cardiorespiratory rate, anguish, decreased food intake, increased water intake are expected natural compensations. The impact of heat stress on the organic defense system, protein expression, electrolyte balance and the well-being of laying hens has been the subject of our studies. Identifying whether the antimicrobial peptide Ctx(Ile21)-Ha has a mitigating action on heat stress in laying hens, as well as identifying qualitative and quantitative differences in proteins involved in regulatory processes of the immune system and the avian's organism are our main objectives. We hope with this proposal to elucidate the compensatory mechanisms of these birds, which allow them to survive ambient temperatures that challenge their thermoregulation, with the least possible impact on their productivity.
