Abstract

Clarice.ai is an artificial intelligence startup dedicated to improving nonfiction writing. Our platform provides real-time support for text editing and revision, emphasizing clarity, conciseness, originality, and impact. Launched in August 2019 and selected for Phases 1 and 2 of the FAPESP Innovative Research in Small Businesses Program (PIPE), this project resulted in a proprietary AI designed to enhance web and content marketing texts. With a user base of over 350,000 registered users and 80,000 active users monthly, we serve small, medium, and large enterprises, as well as marketers, journalists, and academics. Recently, we received investments from the Programa Inova Startups (Inova Startups Program) and venture capital funds, enabling further progress in research and development (R&D).The arrival of ChatGPT and large language models (LLMs) in 2022 created a new landscape in writing support tools, presenting significant scientific and technical challenges. This project aims to develop a proprietary LLM by refining an open-source model such as Llama 3.2. The blend of linguistic expertise with language processing techniques is intended to improve accuracy and user control over the editing process, as well as to make machine-generated texts more natural.Further challenges include: i) enhancing the accuracy of our AI in refining style, especially for texts generated by LLMs like ChatGPT; ii) extending writing, editing, and revision capabilities to other fields, such as journalism and academia; and iii) expanding our proprietary AI to other languages, initially focusing on Spanish and its variations across Latin America. We expect that the results of this project will not only strengthen Clarice.ai's market position but also offer significant advancements in writing support tools, benefiting users across various fields.
