Abstract

The PPPP project associated with this proposal aims to identify sites at the interface of wild aquatic birds and backyard poultry that may increase the risk of avian influenza virus (AIV) transmission to commercial flocks in São Paulo. Preliminary findings identified a 3.5% seroprevalence of low pathogenic AIV in backyard birds and high-risk areas identified through kernel density analysis. The project seeks to enhance understanding of low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) circulation, assess viral pathogenicity, and mitigate animal and human health risks, supporting sustainable collaboration between institutions from Brazil and USA.
