Abstract

The incidence and severity of infectious diseases are higher in people with diabetes. The reasons are unknown, but it may be due to the worsening of cellular and humoral parameters related to the immune response due to the worsening of metabolism during diabetes. On the other hand, physical exercise can be an important ally in the treatment of diabetes. At the same time, trained people have a lower risk of upper respiratory tract infections. This study aims to evaluate whether the function and metabolism of monocytes and neutrophils are better in trained diabetics compared to sedentary ones. Also in this study, the analysis of cellular and serum metabolomics will allow us to understand whether the biochemical alterations support the functional changes found in the comparison between diabetics and healthy, trained or sedentary individuals. Healthy and diabetic, sedentary and trained individuals will be divided into four groups and subjected to an acute exercise session to analyze the function of monocytes and neutrophils, the inflammatory profile and metabolomics. This experimental design will allow at least two comparisons, namely, diabetics vs. healthy individuals and trained vs. sedentary individuals. (AU)
