Human Resource Training Program in Petroleum Geology, Environment, and Energy Transition

Abstract

This proposal aims to strengthen the training of highly qualified professionals to meet national strategic demands in the oil and gas sector, as well as environmental challenges and essential inputs for the energy transition toward a low-carbon economy. It updates the scope of PRH 43.1, Human Resource Training Program in Petroleum Geology, selected under Public Call No. 01/2018/PRH-ANP. The plan includes teaching and research activities (undergraduate, master's, Ph.D., and postdoctoral) with an emphasis on Areas I (Theme 1 - Exploration: Pre-Salt Horizon, Deep Waters, Mature Basins, and New Exploratory Frontiers) and VI (Theme 2 - Safety and Environment), as outlined in Annex I of ANP Resolution 918/2023. Additionally, the proposal incorporates research and education on strategic minerals for the energy sector (Item VII), as established in CNPE Resolutions No. 2/2021 and No. 8/2024. With a multidisciplinary approach, this initiative aims to train geoscience specialists to work in oil and gas exploration and production, while addressing energy transition challenges, particularly in contaminant management (soil, water, and air) and the efficient exploration of mineral resources. Furthermore, it continues the solid history of the Institute of Geosciences (IGc) at the University of São Paulo in training professionals for the oil and gas sector, following the PRH-PB-241 (2013-2018) and PRH-ANP 2018 projects. Thus, it reinforces the synergy between academia and industry, contributing to technological advancement and the sustainable development of the national energy sector. (AU)
