Abstract

Through this project, the Center for Metropolitan Studies plans to develop two research projects, which will benefit from Dr. de Souza Leão's comparative expertise and experience in theorizing the Brazilian case in dialogue with the international scholarly literature. More specifically, Dr. de Souza Leão studies themes related to social inequalities, public policies, bureaucracy, and democracy, which align with CEM's main thematic areas. During Professor de Souza Leão's visiting period, we hope to achieve two main goals: (i) Develop research activities in which Luciana will collaborate in two subprojects currently being developed by colleagues at CEM-USP, together with colleagues from other universities; (ii) Additionally, Luciana will carry out activities related to knowledge dissemination and student training at the Center for Metropolitan Studies and the Department of Political Science at USP. As a visiting scholar, Luciana will have access to CEM's infrastructure to implement both subprojects, as well as to participate in other academic activities at CEM and USP. The expected outcome of her visiting period is the production of at least two coauthored papers between CEM researchers involved in the project and Professor Luciana de Souza Leão, for submission to high-impact English-language journals.
