Amerindian network: generation and transformation of relationships in the South American lowlands

Abstract

This project focuses on the issue of relational webs in the Amerindian universe of lowland South America. Considering the heuristically fecundity of the concept of 'web', as an alternative to the classical notions of 'tribe', 'ethnic group' and 'society' , we intend to conduct ethnographic research based on shared principles, related to the generation and transformation of relational webs. As a result, we shall propose a new comparative synthesis on how subject webs, discourse webs and knowledge webs (following the lines of investigation indicated) are organized, in different regional complexes. Our work schedule includes various activities, with special attention given to the academic training of students in social anthropology and to the discussion and diffusion of the results of this research project, which will be developed at the Núcleo de História Indígena e do Indigenismo/Universidade de São Paulo, by a group of 28 researchers.
