Abstract

This project intends to contribute to the understanding of the so-called "regional systems" of indigenous South America, and to consolidate a research line on this topic at the PPGAS/Unicamp. Its thematic focus is the contemporary dynamics and transformations of the multiethnic and multilingual complex of the Upper Xingu (Xingu Indigenous Park, MT). The ethnographic research will focus on the ways in which this system has been intertwined with the non-indigenous world, in order to elucidate how these relationships are rooted in a xinguan cosmopolitics and, in turn, how they also contribute to transform various aspects of the life ways of the region´s peoples. We intend to consolidate a group of researchers at the host institution, capable of producing a dynamic perspective on the upper-xinguan complex and that is able to support its comparison with other Amerindian regional systems.
