Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze a set of oral performances associated to historical sites of the Kalapalo, a Carib-speaking people of the Upper Xingu (MT, Brazil). Starting from a close association between events, characters and the landscape, I intend to investigate how a long history of transformations is inscribed in a network of places and elaborated by means of Kalapalo verbal arts. It is hoped, therefore, to contribute to the understanding of the Xinguano regime of territoriality and its relations with socio-political dynamics that characterize both the past and the present of this multiethnic and multilingual complex. Carrying out this research at the Institute of Social & Cultural Anthropology (ISCA) of the University of Oxford, in dialogue with specialists dedicated to the relations between territory, landscape, history and sociality in the Amazon and in other contexts, will allow me to maximize the potential of my ethnographic materials, internationalize my network of interlocutors and promote the international circulation of research results through the publication of articles in English. It is also expected that this period abroad may create possibilities for bilateral cooperation between ISCA and the Department of Anthropology of Unicamp. (AU)
