Abstract

The goal of the project is to investigate the bulbar mechanisms involved in the pressure response to bradykinin. The principal objectives are: a) to obtain a precise location of the bradykinin receptors with the technique of in situ hybridization; b) to obtain a mapping of the areas of projection of the paratrigeminal nucleus with the use of anterograde and retrograde markers; c) to obtain information on the functional relationship of paratrigeminal nucleus with the other structures involved in cardiovascular control by means of electrophysiological recordings and pharmacological blocking of the bulbar structures; d) to investigate the expression of the receptors in mice with genetically determined hypertension through the amplification and sequencing of the mRNA obtained from the tissue of different bulbar structures.
