Abstract

This project aims to analyze and propose new theoretical and operational strategies for the Tuberculosis Control Program (TCP), which involves the production of knowledge in three dimensions: actions technology in the Home care/family sphere, in health services and in the geographic sphere (covering different regions in São Paulo State). The main objectives are: analyze the action technologies in the home care sphere, focusing on the ill person and his/her family so as to find out about their needs and particularities, with a view to proposing intervention strategies; analyze the action technologies in the health care process on the basis of the health service system components: structure - process - outcomes (S-P-O); establish the spatial distribution of TB in Ribeirão Preto (1998-2002); with respect to methodology, both the qualitative and quantitative approach are used, by means of exploratory, prospective and retrospective studies. The primary data will be collected through direct systematic observation, questionnaires, semi-structured interviews. Data analysis will be realized with the help of descriptive statistics (position measures, variability, proportions) as well as the establishment of relations between the variables concerning the structure - process - outcomes of the health services and the content analysis technique.
