Abstract

This project is entitled development of methods employing atomic absorption spectrometry for determination of elements at low levels ambiental (water and sediments), agronomical (plants and foods) and clinical (homodialysis fuid) matrices. The objectives of this project are related to the on-line sample decomposition by using microwave oven, coupled to flow injection systems and thermal desorption to the volatile elements from solid samples. In addition, the development of analytical methods using a tungsten coil atomizer (150 W) for electrothermal atomization as a lower cost alternative to graphite furnace is proposed. Finally, the flow systems for analyte separation/pre-concentration with solid exchanged reactors are proposed in order to improve the performance of the tungsten atomizer. Studies about atomization mechanisms on tungsten surfaces will be focused. (AU)
