Abstract

After eleven years of paralysis, the teams of the IBGE are in the field carrying out the Agricultural Census. The central objective of this project is to study the most important transformations in agriculture, above all those that refer to its social structure, in the light of data from the Census. A first stage of the work (one year) consists of accompanying, together with the IBGE, the so-called critical stage in which the tabulations are organized. Thus the team will have a preliminary vision of the tendencies, which will permit it to refine the initial hypotheses of the research. At the same time this initial contact will provide knowledge of the content, the range, the limits and the changes in the categories employed by the 1996 Census in relation to previous surveys. (AU)
