Abstract

The dynamics of carriers in semiconductor structures of reduced dimensionality will be investigated. Emphasis will be placed on devices grown from II-VI semiconductors, in which the time evolution of optical and transport properties dependent on the carrier spins will be studied. The choice of II-VI semiconductors is motivated by the recent advances on the epitaxi growth of such materials, which has not been followed by corresponding theoretical improvements on the description of the observed physical phenomena in these structures. Also, the doping of these semiconductors with magnetic impurities at low concentrations produces peculiar materials known as semimagnetic semiconductors. We aim to study, in particular, the carrier-spin dependent effects of these semimagnetic semiconductors that are strongly affect by an applied magnetic field. The proposed studies of the spin-relaxation dynamics, recombination and optical-excitation dynamics, aim to understand the recently measured effects on semimagnetic semiconductor by means of time-resolved techniques in transport and luminescence experiments.
