Abstract

The dynamic elastic-plastic buckling phenomena which arise in circular cylindrical shells when subjected to axial impact loads will be studied. Different external loading and boundary conditions will be considered in order to clarify the influence of the elastic-plastic stress wave propagation on the buckling process and to provide insight into the post-buckling behaviour of the shell. A criterion for a transition from a progressive folding to a dynamic plastic buckling will be sought based on a parametric study when varying the loading parameters and the geometrical characteristics of the shell. The proposed study will be carried out by a numerical simulation of the studied processes. (AU)
