Abstract
This proposal requests support for a group of faculty and staff of the Pelletron Laboratory of the University of São Paulo for continuing participation in the analysis of data from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Program at the Brookhaven National Laboratory AGS facility (experiment E864) and for the continuation of our leading role in the research and development associated with the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Generally speaking, our physics interests cut across areas related to the discovery and characterization of the Quark Gluon Plasma. Our proposed research tools span from hard probes of the early phases of the collision through observables characterizing the flavor evolution of the system and the observation of medium effects in high density hadronic matter at the final stages of the collision.
